Save Your Smile With Root Canal Therapy
Root canal treatment is the preferred method to save a tooth that would otherwise need to be extracted. While some patients may consider tooth extraction as the solution, they may not realize that removing a tooth can lead to additional costs and complications for surrounding teeth.
Root canal therapy is highly successful and typically lasts a lifetime. However, in some cases, the tooth may require retreatment if a new infection arises.
Signs and Symptoms for Possible Root Canal Therapy:
- An abscess (or pimple) on the gums.
- Sensitivity to hot and cold.
- Severe toothache pain.
- Sometimes no symptoms are present.
- Swelling and/or tenderness.
Reasons for Root Canal Therapy:
- Decay has reached the tooth pulp (the living tissue inside the tooth).
- Infection or abscess have developed inside the tooth or at the root tip.
- Injury or trauma to the tooth.
What Does Root Canal Therapy Involve?
A root canal typically requires one or more appointments and can be done by a dentist The Woodlands or an endodontist.
The tooth will be numbed, and a rubber dam will keep it dry. An access opening is made, and root canal files are used to remove pulp, nerve tissue, and bacteria. Any decay will also be removed.
Once cleaned, the tooth will be sealed with a permanent or temporary filling. In a follow-up visit, the roots and inner cavity are filled with special materials, and a crown will be placed to protect the tooth.
After the procedure, mild sensitivity may occur as the tooth heals. Proper oral hygiene and regular checkups will help maintain the treatment's longevity.
